Description

The Butterfly Tail is very similar to the Telescope in appearance, however, when they are viewed from top, the shape of the tail fin reminds us of a butterfly. This is their most unique feature. Typically, they are categorized as a pop-eyed goldfish but sometimes the Butterfly Tail with normal eyes is imported.

Food

Butterfly Tail is belong to omnivorous goldfish, Butterfly Tail will generally eat all kinds of fresh, frozen, and flake foods. To keep a good balance give them a high quality flake food everyday. Feed brine shrimp (either live or frozen), blood worms, Daphnia, or tubifex worms as a treat. It is usually better to feed freeze-dried foods as opposed to live foods to avoid parasites and bacterial infections that could be present in live foods.

Breeding

It is often easier to breed these fish in ponds rather than aquariums but both are possible. The female will lay her sticky eggs on plants and they should hatch in 48-72 hours. The fry are very small when newly hatched but will grow in size rapidly. Their coloration will remain brown like their ancestors, but after 12 months the adult coloration should show through.

Compatible with

The best tank mates for the Butterfly Tail are similar slow swimming goldfish that also have some kind of handicap. These are the Telescope Eye, Black Moor, Bubble Eye, Celestial Eye and even other twin-tails like the Oranda, Fantail or Lionhead. Doing this, all your goldfish will have an even chance when food is served. Please do not mix with single-tailed, fast swimming and competitive goldfish like the Common, Comet or Shubunkin.
